Hammersmith is situated between Fulham, Kensington, and Chiswick. It was once a chapelry of the ancient parish of Fulham, but gained parochial independence in 1834.

Hammersmith Bridge

Hammersmith has one of London’s prettiest bridges, designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette.   It was built to replace a previous bridge that had become too weak for the volume of traffic and was opened on the 11th of June 1887.

It is a popular place to watch the famous Oxford and Cambridge boat race as it lies about halfway along the course.

Hammersmith’s most attractive open space is Ravenscourt Park, conveniently close to Hammersmith Tube Station and boasts a small lake and four well-designed children’s playgrounds.
