Our Wimbledon tree surgery team were asked to reduce this ash tree in Wimbledon by fifty percent to reduce the canopy and to limit the sail area because there is significant decay at the base. Reducing the sail area means removing branches to thin the tree and lower its resistance to the wind, but is normally only carried out when the tree is weak at the base as in this instance. Heavy pruning often causes reactionary growth which can be a sign of stress so our expert team of tree surgeons were careful to avoid causing this.
Allowing the wind to pass through and around the tree, greatly reduces the likelihood that the tree will fall in stormy weather.
